Dear Editor: The District of - North Vancouver council never ceases to amaze me. Deep Cove is a relatively unspoilt area and _ the residents have a strong sense of community involvement. They do not want the scenic beauty spoilt, and yet a 3% Storey business/con- domjnium was approved and built this year on the corner of Gallant and Banbury. The building is right up to the property fine and across from the park and beach. Another business/condo. complex of 5 storeys — the only five storey building in this area — was approved by council for the corner of Gallant and Panorama. Both these projects have met with much local opposition. Now we have St. Simons Anglican Church donating property so that 60 units can be built for seniors, and the district council stalls the project on technicalities. Over 100 seniors have already applied to live in the complex — if itis ever built. There has been absolutely nO Opposition from local residents, most of whom realize the desperate need for low cost housing and would like to see local residents, and others, en- joying the Deep Cove area in later life. District council has been bickering for months about the density of the complex and whether it can fit into existing bylaw zoning. The Simoncliff project has been designed to fit on a sloping lot. 80% of the suites have a view of trees and mountains. The iot ‘is bounded by St. Simons and its parking lot, a large easement and Myrtle Park. Seycove~ Community School and the public library are a block away. Surely, when as Ald. Ernie Crist said, it remains the difficult job of churches and non-profit” organizations to “do the job that Iocal government cannot do”, Patients should help LGH Dear Editor: I have spent the last eleven years fighting cancer in my lower jaw and after three operations and X-ray treatment at Vancouver General Hospital I decided to go the Mayo Cinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and over a period of six years had five more operations at the Rochester Methodist Hospital. Their hospital ‘standard and nursing staff were excellent and at the time I was very satisfied with Dear Editor: The North Shore News is a newspaper, not a fashion magazine or a Playboy; why then do you continue to print the Girly Picture of the Week? Our society today already places too much emphasis on looks and sexuality — hence the rise in physical abuse and moral decadence. Instead of featuring a female who has a pretty face and/or large breasts, how about having a feature on Handwerk Lesson in Kbedergarten my treatment. Just recently I had to have half my tongue removed and after the surgery the homecare nurse - came mofning and night and after two weeks the nurse Miss Susan Haltom RN could see with each visit that I. was becoming more and more depressed. This citizen could be anyone who has made a contribution to our community, or even a person who has done something kind for someone else. Michele Desmarais 1 North Vancouver Goometrtc Drawing te Grade 9 treatment, he gave me something that I had never received before and that was the assurance I would be cured and there was hope. I cannot'say enough about the ' nursing staff on W7 at the Lions Gate Hospital. They all radiate love and kindness, ‘and they are the true example of the ex- pression Angels of Mercy. I wanted to make some . contribution to show my appreciation so decided to become a life-member of the Hospital for the small sum of $25.00. I was appalled to read in your paper the hardship this hospital is going through. Every past patient and present patient should support this excellent hospital and contribute as a life member helping to sustain the very high standard this hospital has to offer. The District council was elected by the people to represent them. This is the only project (in recent years) for Deep Cove, which has not met with local op- position. Please council, join with Aldermen Crist, Ball and Lakes and pass this project quickly so that the provincial government can release already approved funds and Simoncliff can be built. Dilys G.
