District to protect Grouse

NORTH VANCOUVER
District Council has voted to
go to bylaw in order to des-
ignate the Grouse Mountain
Resorts Ltd. property as a
development permit area.

According to a_ District
staff report, the develop-
ment permit designation
would allow council to retain
the ‘‘generally forested
character of the area, direct
development to those areas
which are environmentally
suited to support develop-
ment, protect areas of
ecological imporiance, and
generally preserve the natu-
ral mountain backdrop.’

Council has two available
boundary options for a
development permit area
consisting of either the lands
owned and leased by Grouse
Mountain Resorts Ltd.

The second option deals
with all of the land owned
by Grouse Mountain Resorts
Ltd., as well as those lands
currently leased by the com-
pany from the Greater Van-
couver Water District
(GVWD).

The staff report said op-
tion A. would have no effect
if Grouse Mountain Resorts
Lid. decided to expand or

The report said, however,
option B ‘will provide the
necessary assurances that
Grouse Mountain Resorts
Lid. cannot expand the ski
operation or add new facili-
ties on its property without
municipal consideration of

siting and design aspects.’

Shore News,

The company had applied
in November for a rezoning
of a portion of tand jeased
from the GVWD from PRO
to I4, in order to permit
gravel extraction and the
construction of a parking
tot.
