A7 - Sunday, June 17, 1984 - North Shore News EE mailbox |><| Ad about WV negotiations Don’t remove with Indian band ‘untrue’ Our Channel 9 Dear Editor: The District of West Vancouver wishes to. state that the paid advertisement by the “‘Time for Change Committee’’ -- claiming that the Squamish Indian Band had openly invited municipal Participation in discussions with regard to the use of the land (Ambleside cut-off lands) and as of mid-May had not even had a phone cali from the Mayor -- is an untruth, an untruth intended to cause disbelief, distrust and antagonism towards the mayor and council. Mayor Humphreys advises that he and the Band Campaign donors thanked Dear Editor On behalf of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, | would like to thank everyone who gave to MS in our recent MS Car- nation Day Campaign. Over $16,000 was raised in the North Shore area, thanks to the generosity of your com- munity, the excellent media coverage, and our. strong volunteer force. We would like to. give special recognition to the hundreds of real estate agents in Greater Vancouver who donated their time = and energy to organize MS Car- nation Day. We also thank our own MS members, fnends and families who worked very hard to raise an estimated $65,000 in Greater Vancouver and $115,000 pro vincially. The funds raised will assist: persons with MS and their famualies in this area, and support research at UBC into the cause and cure of multiple sclerosis Dr. Rick Brooks-Hill, President MS Society of Canada B.C. Division Pw ap IRENE o« " . SPE COROANIC URL Manager, David Jacobs, have been in discussion both by personal contact and telephone, in which Mr. Jacobs indicated that, when the band was ready to talk to the Municipality, they would contact the Municipality. This is confirmed in a press statement in the North Shore News dated May 9, 1984, in which he stated: ‘‘To begin with, those meetings will only involve members of the Squamish Band. Discussion with others involved in the question of the future of the lands -- such as West Vancouver, which is anxious to discuss Missing minutes Dear Editor: ] am writing a story about an early North Vancouver fishing and hunting club circa 1923, called the North Shore Fish & Game Protec- tion Association, wand am trying to locate the club's minutes book which spanned a period of about 10 years. Four or five years ago Mr. Ernie Way, a barber who ran the Piccadilly Barber- shop on Lonsdale, lent the book to a customer, a North Vancouver Historical Society member, who planned to put excerpts from the book into ‘i te Mrs John Emerson is pleased to announce the the future of the eastern portion of Ambleside Park -- will come later.’’ The one statement in the paid ad with which we agree is that ‘‘a good mayor and council would have this matter organized and in place’’. The Municipality is prepared and ready to discuss this matter when the other party (the Squamish Band) is ready to discuss it. It is completely untrue to say that the Mayor and Council have done nothing. Derrick Humphreys Mayor West Vancouver club sought the newspaper Unfortunately, the book was not returned to Mr. Way (or given to the museum) and he cannot remember the name of the person borrowing it. The borrower was an active Historical Society member who posted a ‘‘members wanted’’ notice in the barbershop. If anyone knows of the book's whereabouts or has any information as to these events, [| would appreciate hearing from them. Why must our federal government help bomb our city again? The quality of programm- ing on T.V. is garbage apart from Channel 9. Channel 9 1s what our billion-dollar waste (CBC) should be but isn’t. If we lose Channel 9, then | think everyone in the CRTC should be forced to watch the CBC and CKVU. This is fit punishment. Please reconsider this deci- sion for our children’s sake, our education sake, and for heaven’s sake. We need quality like Chan- nel 9, please don’t remove the only station worth watching!
