council are former City
aldermen Ralph Hall and
Marc Howard, together with
Dana Taylor. All three ran

: Crawford Kilian, a well-
known author and educator,
will run for a seat on the
North Vancouver School
Board this November. Along
with incumbent trustee
Dorothy Lynas and Chief
Philip Joe of the Squamish
Indian Band, Kilian has been
nominated by the North

Vancouver Voters’
Association (NOVVA), a
nonpartisan community
group. -

Kilian will be calling for
higher standards of literacy,
a strong commitment to
community schools, more
provincial responsibility for
education costs, and con-
tinued support of bilingual
education programs.

A North Vancouver
tesident since 1967, Kilian
has taught English and

Communications at Capilano
College since it opened in
1968. He has been the
coordinator of the college's
Communications Depart-
Ment since 1974.

His articles in the Van-
couver Sun on education
issues have been widely
Praised and sometimes
controversial. He has at-
tacked low standards § in
teaching reading and
Writing, and praised the
dedication of mature

article, Kilian warned
