You will have the guidance and fead- ership of the fundraising commit- tee to promote and coordinate a special project to raise funds. ELP an enthusiastic woman, who is physically disabled, in her pottery class at a recreation cen- tre. The hours are from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursdays. FRIENDLY seniors are needed to help process registration forms for programs at a seniors’ centre. This volunteer opportunity also involves the use of a cash register and computer, and computer training will be provided. IF YOU play the piano and en- Joy golden oldies, you are invited to perform at monthly birthday parties for seniors, and also to ae- company a singing group for practices, performances and special occasions such as Christmas. The hours are flexible and orientation will be provided. BE A friend and role model to a 17-year-old youth who has special needs. He comes home to the North Shore every second weekend and would like a buddy for recreational and leisure activi- ties. Orientation and training will be provided. PROVIDE a home for kittens. The North Shore Humane Society captures wild kittens and tames them, before finding homes for them. If you love cats and can spend some time with one, then foster a kitten and take care of it from one week to two months. Orientation will be provided. If you want to volunteer, call 985-7138. NSCS is a participating member agency of the United Way. Nature ramble to tour Lynn Headwaters today CELEBRATE BRITISH Colum- bia (B.C.) Rivers Day, Sunday, Sept. 27, with a guided nature ramble in Lynn Headwaters * Regional Park. Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD) naturalists will welcome you on a two hour, 5.5 kilometre intermediate hike through fragrant autumn woods. Along the way, sip evergreen tea, listen to old tree lore, and ‘discover why the forest is very important to maintaining the vibrant health of Lynn Creek: Everyone eight years and older is welcome. The hike is free and registration is not required. To get to Lynn Headwaters Regional Park from Highway 1, take the Lynn Valley Road exit. Continue north past Lynn Canyon Park to the very top of Lynn Valley Road and the park en- trance. Meet at the upper parking lot at 1 p.m. and remember to wear sturdy hiking shoes or boots. Walking tour offered through historic mountain rail tunnels NORTH SHORE Continuing -Education (NSCE) is offering res- idents a chance to walk through the Othello Quinette tunnels of the Coquihalla Canyon. ‘Formerly used by steam locomotives of the Kettle Valley Railway, the tunnels are now designed so visitors can walk through the rock byways.
