Telemedia Communications wants a judge to order Lower Lonsdale-based Pacitic Magazine Publishing to change the logo on its flagship Vancouver Lifestyles magazine. Telemedia, based in Montreal, publishes Vancouver maga- zine, a fixture on Lower Mainland newsstands for three decades, It filed suit in B.C. Supreme Court July 22 because it believes upstart Vancouver Lifestylesis violating its trademark to deliberately confuse readers and advertisers. The suit alleges that until July 1998, the word Liiestyles dominated the cover of Vancourer Lifestyles. But, in February, a new design gave Vancouver more prominence on the cover. “The word Vancouver now dominates the tithe of the mag- azine,” said the Telemedia statement of claim, filed by lawyer Timothy Lo of Smart and Biggar. Teens robbed at Phibbs Exchange TWO 14-year-olds were assaulted and robbed near Phibbs Exchange on Wednesday. According to the North Vancouver RCMP, five Iranian men stepped from a vehicle and approached the two teens at about 7:30 p.m. One of the five men pushed and spat on one of the victims. He then searched the teen and stole his pager and bus pass. The sccond teen was ordered to hand over his back pack, which con- tained a portable CD player and several CDs. The five men then returned to their vehicle and drove off. The five are described by police as being Iranian and in their carly 20s. The main suspect is 20 to 23 years old, six feet tall, and was unshaven with short black hair. The suit says Pacific has refused to respond to Telemedia’s demands and continues to infringe on its trademark. “By reason of the aforesaid activities of Pacific, Telemedia has suffered and continues ro suffer irreparable damage to its reputation and goodwill.” Vancouver publishes 10-times a year with a claimed circula- tion of 65,000 copies.
