Celebs snapped ||
for Roots’ ads

MINNIE Driver and Matt.Damon: just two of the
celebrities who posed for Roots’ fall campaign.

THE annual celebrity
advertising campaign
launched by Roots
Canada is rolling to a
close.

This fall, as in 1996, Los
Angeles portrait artist Greg
Gorman photographed the ad
campaign.

“We were really pleased with
the campaign Greg did for us in
1996,” said Roots co-founder
Michacl Budmall.

“With our new fashion direc-
tion and commitment to foster-
ing young talent, we wanted to
have Greg shoot a new crop of
celebrities and up-and-coming
actors.”

This year’s campaign featured
film stars Minnie Driver, Donna
Dixon, Ben and Casey Affleck
and Matt Damon. Damon and

the Affleck brothers were in
Toronto earlier this year shooting
Good Will Hunting (written by
Damon and Ben Aftleck), co-star-
ring Robin Williams and directed
by Gus Van Sant (Drugstore
Cowboy).

In the movie, a Boston genius
(Damon) is targeted for recruit-
ment by the F.B.I.

Minnie Driver first caught the
eye of Hollywood with 1994's
Circle of Friends and has been
seen recently in Grosse Point
Blank.

Donna Dixon (married to
Canada’s own Dan Ackroyd) has
appeared on television in Bosom
Buddies and in movies such as
Wayne's World.

Matt Damon was in Courage
Under Fire and Ben Affleck’s
credits include Mallrats and
Chasing Amy.

UNTIL OCT. 30: The North Vancouver
Community Arts Council is pleased to exhibit
selected pieces of Kian Samet’s work at the
District Municipal Hail, 355 West Queens Rd.

Samet approaches her miniature scale replicas
as if she were creating any high end garment —
only the best materials are acceptable and no
detail is superfluous. Also included in this show
is Samet’s miniature of Princess Diana.

UNTIL NOV. 3: Celtic artist Rudi Diesvelt
exhibits Books, Bags, Belts and Bands at
Granville Island’s Circle Craft Gallery. His col-
lection of traditional and neo-Celtic objects
dart runs to Nov. 3. The gallery is open seven

days a week, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Info: 669-8021.

MONDAY, OCT. 6: Calling all mothers-to-
be on the North Shore, youll want to attend
Welcome Wagon’s baby shower at Cheers
Restaurant, 125 East 2nd St., North
Vancouver. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The event
will include fashion shows by Picase Mum and
Maternal Instinct, demonstrations, special dis-
plays, door prizes and gifts for every mother.
Admission is free, but by invitation only. To
