THE annual celebrity advertising campaign launched by Roots Canada is rolling to a close. This fall, as in 1996, Los Angeles portrait artist Greg Gorman photographed the ad campaign. “We were really pleased with the campaign Greg did for us in 1996,” said Roots co-founder Michacl Budmall. “With our new fashion direc- tion and commitment to foster- ing young talent, we wanted to have Greg shoot a new crop of celebrities and up-and-coming actors.” This year’s campaign featured film stars Minnie Driver, Donna Dixon, Ben and Casey Affleck and Matt Damon. Damon and the Affleck brothers were in Toronto earlier this year shooting Good Will Hunting (written by Damon and Ben Aftleck), co-star- ring Robin Williams and directed by Gus Van Sant (Drugstore Cowboy). In the movie, a Boston genius (Damon) is targeted for recruit- ment by the F.B.I. Minnie Driver first caught the eye of Hollywood with 1994's Circle of Friends and has been seen recently in Grosse Point Blank. Donna Dixon (married to Canada’s own Dan Ackroyd) has appeared on television in Bosom Buddies and in movies such as Wayne's World. Matt Damon was in Courage Under Fire and Ben Affleck’s credits include Mallrats and Chasing Amy. Samet approaches her miniature scale replicas as if she were creating any high end garment — only the best materials are acceptable and no detail is superfluous.
