A bakery brouhaha has
landed a shop owner in

Eileen Hall, owner of West
Vancouver’s Savoury Island
Pie Company, faced an assault
charge in North Vancouver
provincial court on Aug. 13.
The Crown charged Halt with
the offence after Hall allegedly
struck Jeneen O’Halloran on
the head with a binder.

O'Halloran, 24, worked at
the bakery for one-and-a-half
years, but left three days after
the Jan. 25 incident.

the question. Eventually,
White reworded his question
and simply asked O*Halloran
if the binder hit the floor.
“Yes,” she replied. “After it hit
my head.”

The incident was apparent-
ly touched off by a disagree-
ment over the previous week-
end’s weather.

The binder in question
contains a record of both sales
and the weather of cach and
every business day. The two
factors are tracked. because
weather is thought to be a
k.rge factor in determining
sates levels. This information,

in turn, is used to decide how
many items should be baked °
to meet the next day’s
demand.

Following the binder inci-
dent, O’Halloran went to see a
doctor who told her to file a
police report. She did that the
following day. West Vancouver
Police Const. Pat Wright told
the court he could see “red- .
ness on her forehead” when
she filed the report. He added -
he could also detect some
swelling on her face.

The trial will continue on
Nov. 12. Ac that time, three
more defence witnesses and .-
one Crown witness may be
called.
