In . addition to changing the names of the recreation centres, for example what once was William Griffin Recreation Centre is now recCentre Griffin, the commission has adopted a new logo and colors. Input culled from ~ser surveys and support from Capilano Col- lege marketing students identified some critical public relations pro- blems for the rec commission to solve. ; “People didn’t know where the various facilities were located and they didn’t know that the facilities were’ in the same system,” said Kevan Tisshaw, North Vancouver Recreation. Commission manager of support services. RecCentre Lonsdale already sports the new colors in the arena area. - To connect the facilities to one organization, the design consultant suggested the adoption of rec as a prefix to new facility names ‘because the colloquial term was already® firmly imbedded in the mind of the general public. New: signage including the playful sun logo, which replaces the utilitarian stick man used by the commission since the early °60s, will be sprouting up at rec centres throughout the community in the coming weeks.
