Liberace, who saw the
puppet image of himself in
Canada and was so im-
pressed he invited the
company to appear with him
in Las Vegas. When he
issued the invitation he was
unaware of the handicaps of
the performers.

Diane Dupuy, the miracle
worker behind Famous
People Players, began her
puppet work entertaining
friends and ncighbours with
Punch and Judy shows.
Later, doing a puppet show
at the Canadian National
Exhibition in Toronto, she
got applause and advice
from a famous performer —
Bill Cosby. 11 was he who

urged her to go to
Czechoslovakia to study
black light theatre.

With three friends and
nine students from a school
for the handicapped she
organized Famous People
Players in 1974, the federal

government contributing
funding.
After Liberace spotted

them and introduced them to
Las Vegas, where they

carned rave reviews, all the
rest is show-business history.

The McPherson’ Foun-
dation, a non-profit socicty
dedicated to the betterment
of the arts, sponsored the
troupe in Victoria a ycar
