Maureen Elliott, owner of Margareta, calis it the Presidential Look — fine
if Nancy Reagan i is your style maven but not if you’re trying to make a
statement of your own.

“I like red as an accent piece — in a scarf or a jack-

et,” says Elliott, who this season has resurrected
a double-breasted red wool satin jacket she
purchased a co uple of seasons ago.
" Elliott says the biggest misconception

she hears in her store is “Oh, red doesn’t
fitin my wardrobe.” Not so, she says. She
wears her red jacket with black, of course, but
also with jeans and a T-shirt, and anything navy or
taupe. Or just leave red to the accessories.

Liz Claiborne has a racy red leather coin purse, which is
