Hockey league votes to make
fuil-face shields mandatory

FULL-FACE hockey shields will
be mandatory equipment on
Player's helmets at the 1992-93
season of the West Coast Junior
Hockey League.

The decision was voted for
unanimously by the West Coast
Junior Heckey League governors
and executive at its Dec. 17
meeting.

The adoption of full-face
chields is in accordance with B.C.
Amateur Hockey Association's

risk management program.

In addition to reducing the in-
cidents of serious facial and dental
injuries in the league, the West
Coast Junior Hockey League
seeks to raise player, parent and
fan awareness of the dangers in-
volved with playing the game of
hockey.

said the league hopes other Junior
“B’> Leagues will adopt fuil-face
shields.

RecCentre Ron Andrews holds
winter indoor triathlon event

AN INDOOR triathion will be
held at recCentre Ron Andrews on
Feb. 2.

According to event organizer
Mary Mackenzie, the triathlon will
appeal to people who are looking
for a new challenge in their winter
fitness activities.

The participant will choose
three out of a possible four

* events:
@ Climbing the Stairmaster for a
distance of 2.5 miles;
@ Racing on the Lifecycle sta-

tionary bike for a distance of 5.5
miles;
@ Taking the plunge for an
800-metre swim;
@ Rowing 3,000 metres on a
Concept II rowing ergometre.
Each event is designed to take
approximately 15 minutes and
each recCentre in North Vancouver
carries the specified equipment or
the equivalent.
