OPTIONS FOR VOLUNTEERS THE FOLLOWING is a selection of volunteer opportunities avail- able through North Shore Com- munity Services (NSCS), AN ENTHUSIASTIC tutor is needed to work on a one-to-one basis with a motivated student who wants to learn basic English, reading, writing and math skills. A 12-hour training werkshop is provided. The actual hours are flexible. A CHRISTMAS crafts leader is wanted to lead an_ enthusiastic group of seniors in making various crafts. Also needed are a weight loss instructor to lead a nutrition and exercise program, a creative writing teacher to provide inspiration to a group of interest- ed seniors, and an experienced calligraphy teacher to teach calligraphy on an_ intermediate level. The hours are flexible 2nd orientation is provided. A GARDEN society requires people to work in the reception area, at the cash register and to help with wrapping and inventory in the gift sop. An enthusiastic garden docent is also needed to lead groups of schoo! children or adults on educational tours of the garden. VANCOUVER’S First’ Night celebration of the arts needs help with this annual event that in- volves hundreds of performances in dozens of venues. Volunteers are needed to help with a market survey, ticketing, ushering, office duties and crowd centrol. Orien- tation, t-shirt, button and an in- vitation to the ‘‘wrap-up’’ party MCTHERS-TO-BE are provided. A HOSPITAL auxiliary needs sociable people to provide non- medical care and comfort to pa- tients in the hospital. A variety of positions are available, from work in the gift shop to selling flowers and delivering mail. The hours are flexible. THEATRE lovers who are reli- able are needed to assist with stage preparation, props and set- ting up scenery on Sundays prior to the performance dates.
