Elected for the upcoming year were Phil Miles, president; Debra Pool, vice-president; Maureen Murphy, treasurer; and Janet Thomson, secretary. The foundation is the survivor of North Van High, remembered affectionately by 70 graduating classes and for almost 50 years the only high school in North Van- couver. Started in $979 when the school closed, the foundation now has a paid-up membership of 50 and a capital of over $175,000. The purpose of the foundation is to help deserving North Vancouver graduates continue their educauion. Last June the foundation awarded 28 bursaries and = scholarships worth a total of $15,900 to stu- dents from all seven North Van- couver high schools. For the first time six technology scholarships were offered to stu- dents entering business or indus- trial training. This year the amount is projected io be more than $18,000. The awards were presented to the students Sept. 10 at the home of foundation governor Elizabeth Frith, at a garden party attended by the students, their parents or guardians, governors ef the foun- dation and prominent North Van- couver spousors and educators. The studenis, who represent North Vancouver's top scholars, automatically become life-long associates of the foundation. By the terms of its new govern- ment-approved constitution, the minimum yearly donation for membership in the foundation is now $5. All donations are tax deductible.
