names officials

THE NORTH Vancouver High
Schovi Education Foundation neld
its annual general meeting Thurs-
day, Oct. 19.

Elected for the upcoming year
were Phil Miles, president; Debra
Pool, vice-president; Maureen
Murphy, treasurer; and Janet
Thomson, secretary.

The foundation is the survivor
of North Van High, remembered
affectionately by 70 graduating
classes and for almost 50 years the
only high school in North Van-
couver. Started in $979 when the
school closed, the foundation now
has a paid-up membership of 50
and a capital of over $175,000.

The purpose of the foundation is
to help deserving North Vancouver
graduates continue their educauion.
Last June the foundation awarded
28 bursaries and = scholarships
worth a total of $15,900 to stu-
dents from all seven North Van-
couver high schools.

For the first time six technology

scholarships were offered to stu-
dents entering business or indus-
trial training. This year the amount
is projected io be more than
$18,000.

The awards were presented to
the students Sept. 10 at the home
of foundation governor Elizabeth
Frith, at a garden party attended
by the students, their parents or
guardians, governors ef the foun-
dation and prominent North Van-
couver spousors and educators.

The studenis, who represent
North Vancouver's top scholars,
automatically become life-long
associates of the foundation.

By the terms of its new govern-
ment-approved constitution, the
minimum yearly donation for
membership in the foundation is
now $5. All donations are tax
deductible.

DAY TRIP TO SEATTLE

Seniors trip scheduled

SENIORS ARE invited to visit the South Centre Mall
in Seattle o a day trip being sponsored by the Nor h
Shore Neighbourhood House.

Participants will travel by Maverick’s deluxe high-
way coach to Seattle with a stop for tea on the way.

The trip wil! provide ‘ta wonderful opportunity ts
browse through tasteful surroundings and pick up
some pre-Christmas bargains,’’ suggests Carel Bond,
seniors program worker.

Then it’s off to Seattle’s scenic parks for a brief

visit or, if weather is poor, a tour of the special homes
of Seattle. Dinner arrangements have been made at
the King’s Table restaurant where participants wil]

The trip is happening on Thursday, Nov. 30 from
8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. The fee is $25. The trip will
depart from and return to the neighbourhood house,
225 E. 2nd St., Nerth Vancouver.
