Vancouver environmentalist against the provincia! govern- ” ment over its decision to approve a revised air pollution permit for the Port Mellon pulp and paper mill has been postponed to until after the summer. Originally scheduled for June 12, the court date was postponed after insufficient notice from the petitioner to the respondents of the intent to proceed with the suit was given. - ‘The petition, initially filed April 1988 on behalf of Terry Jacks, is seeking a court declaration that provincial waste management director Bob Ferguson exceeded his authority when he signed the revised air pollution permit. Also named in the suit is provincial Environment Minister Bruce Strachan. A new court date for the action is not expected to be set before September. Gunshot kills Vancouver man A VANCOUVER man died Friday after sustaining a gunshot wound to the neck Thursday night. A B.C. Ambulance Service advanced life support unit was dispatched to the CN tracks near the 1400-block Dominion Street in North Vancouver at approximately 7:30 p.m. to assist the in- jured man. Advauced life support procedures were initiated to sustain the man’s Sreathing and circulation. A North Vancouver RCMP spokesman said Kenneth Bradley White, 36, of 3155 Garden Drive, and an employee were shooting at beer cans with a sawed-off rifle behind business premises at 1466 Dominion Street. White was mortally wounded when he slipped and fell near a rail embankment and the rifle went off. Tree people hold meeting NORTH SHORE Citizens for Trees has planned a public informa- {ion meeting to discuss tree policies and bylaws on the North ore. The recently formed orgenization has invited representatives from the three North Shore municipalities to address the issues. Ald. Ernie Crist and forestry technologist Derek Power will be appearing for North Vancouver District, and Eric Lees, assistant parks superintendent for West Vancouver, has confirmed his at- tendance. North Vancouver City Mayor Jack Loucks and David Biacoe, coordinator for the committee to Save Lynn Canyon Park, will also be attending. An informational fact-finding session will be followed by a question and answer period. The Raging Grannies are scheduled to provide entertainment.
