ar- MaAILBox Dempsey connector praised Dear Editor: The recent letter from the North Lonsdale Ratepayers’ Association regarding the Braemar-Dempscy connector was most amusing. A trifle shrill but quite predictable. Listening to their side of the story one might think that the Up- per Levels Highway is about to be rerouted up Mountain Highway across the new connector and then down Lonsdale or, in their worst case scenario, carrying on to Mon- froyal and then down Capilano Road. Why it could almost be thought of as the ultimate Lons- dale and Westview ‘‘overpass,’’ or so they might have your readers believe. But why let our imagination stop there? Why not continue the myth westward, across the Capilano River and on through the British Properties? Can you see it now? Hoards of ‘‘Lynn Valley Lunch- buckets"’ driving primer’d pickups with over-sized tires and Harley Davidsons, devastating the night and day with their din! And worse Dear, as some might fear, long captive in the Valley, they might creep up the hill clawing and clut- ching, pillaging and plundering, ransacking and raping... Raping?! Raping who? Why Seymour of course, (couldn’t forget them now could we?) who do you think is go- ing to pay for all of this? While most will find humor in this approach a few will actually believe it as truth. That is sad, because the -North Varicouver District Council has done its homework. Twenty years worth of planning has gone into their deci- sion to finally build the Braemar-Dempsey connector and it is the right decision. Generating almost $20 million in land sales the accompanying development will help pay for needed recreational facilities in Seymour and in many other parts of the district. ‘‘Robbing Peter to ruin Paul’s neighborhood" is the only way to describe what would happen if this Tempe Heights-sized development planned on the side of Mount Fromme did NOT have access to the nearest commercial and recreational amenities in Lynn Valley. The Boundary Community Association and the Lynn Valley Community Association have both strongly endorsed council’s deci- Sion to build the Braemar-Demp- sey connector. I agree and I believe that when they are old enough so will my children. Keep up the good work. Derek Andrews North Vancouver Kenneth J.
