Doug Collins ® get this straight @ ‘ MY MAN Lorne is one of nature’s gentlemen. So, know- ing he was an casy touch, | asked him to Jend me his truck to get a big water tank over to my Gulf Island. The reason I wanted to get the tank over was that J am keen about catching rain off the roof, Not too long ago, you see, Son Number One came back from some sub-tropical island and reported that people catch the rain off their roofs all the time. After which they drink it and even swim in it. Being on an island, you see, can mean big water problems. Most people dig wells, it istrue. But you can spend a fortune on a well and still come up with nothing. Or with sulphur, which is worse. Or salt, which is worse still. After digging wells, some chaps have to pawn their wives in order to get enough dough to make a fresh start. The horror stories are endless. Anyway, my man Lorne was cooperative, even though he had once asked me to make a speech to his group and {| had turned him down. | could have his truck at any time, he said, He keeps the truck on the island and even brought it over for me at no small inconvenience. Putting on my most grateful smirk, | went over to Vancouver to collect it. The huge tank was craned on and a squad of .Collins maies and their fe white with maroon interior. Oh, a tire developed a flat in the vicinity of the cottage, but Lorne said not to worry about it and went off to get it fixed himself, Two weeks Jater Gray Eyes and I] were on the ferry, cottage-bound again, and whom do we run into but Lorne and his wile Marilyn. We didn’t have our car with us because | was too chintzy to take it with us for a quick visit, and hoped to scrounge a ride with so- meone out to our place. Without even being asked, Lorne said he would oblige. It is a nine-mile trip and he would drive us back, too. Nice fellow, Lorne. In the past, he has also lent me his lawnmower and helped me to put up a shed, by which | mean he did more work than I did, he knowing more about putting up sheds than J will ever know. As I say, this guy is one of nature’s gentleruen,. The weekend over, we all sailed back to Tsawwassen, munching together in the cafeteria, we were that thick, We then pasted com- pany and for the time being J forgot all about Lorne, there be- ing such a rush and everything.
