Twenty-two ringette teams converge

TWENTY-TWO TEAMS of
girls ranging from eight to
18 are getting set to converge
on the North Shore Winter
Club for the 10th annual
Provincial Ringette A tour-
nament.

The girls will compete for
trophies in five divisions,
with play starting Thursday
at 1:30 p.m. amd continuing
through to the finals, sched-
uled for Sunday afternoon.

Finals for the Debs divi-
sion will go at 12:45 p.m.
Sunday, the Tweens final is
at 2 p.m., the Junior Belles
finals at 3:15 p.m., the
Petite Final at 4:30 p.m. and
the Belles final at 5:45 p.m.

Finals will be followed by
closing ceremonies and
award presentations.

The North Shore will be
well-represented in the pro-
vincia] tournament, with
teams from both the North
Shore Winter Club ringette
league and the North-West
Van league taking part.

The local rivals will face-
off against each other, in
fact, with a series of games
opening competition Friday.

chance to join the North

Vancouver Babe Ruth
Baseball League this Satur-
day.

“The league will be accep-
ting registrations for their
teams in three divisions at
try-outs for the teams, being
held at Inter-Rivr Park
Saturday.

Try-outs for Prep League
(13 year olds) are at noon,
Juniors (aged 14 and 15) are
at.2 p.m. and Seniors (aged
16 to 18) are at 3:30 p.m.

‘The league is particularly
interested in hearing from
13-year-olds, who would
play in the Prep league.

Organizers say the Babe
Ruth Prep league is unique
to juvenile baseball in that it
provides an opportunity for
13-year-olds to play in their
own age group for a full
season, acting as a transition
stage between Little League
and the leagues for older
players.
