B7 - Wednesday, September 19, 1984 - North Shore News Cowboys coming to Edgemont Village THE EDGEMONT Village Merchants Association will host a day-long celebration in the newly revitalized shopp- ing centre. Western Day, Saturday, September 22, will feature a community oriented festivity with a cowboy theme. The stores and shopkeepers will be decked out in western garb and the entire day accen- tuated with bonanza events intended to be enjoyed by the entire family. The gala begins with a decorated bicycle parade in conjunction with the local schools. The post-adolescent kids have not been forgotten however — the cycle event will also include an adult category. The day will continue with clowns from a_ service association distributing bushels of apples, culminating in a Square Dance presentation put on by the Swinging Singles and the Village Squares in which the general public will be en- couraged to participate. This will take place on Woodbine Drive which will be closed to traffic during the event, as will Lower Highland Boulevard. Corn on the cob will be of- fered at a _ bargain price courtesy of a new business venture to the community, Village Produce. Numerous craft displays which wiil delight the young and old alike will be held on the Village sidewalks. There will be a dog costume party sponsored by Paws & Claws Pantry. The public is invited to bring their pooches small and large. The dogs will be judged on most beautiful, most original and most amusing costumes. Large dogs will be judged separately from smaller breeds and several prizes will be awarded. Individual stores and shops will be holding a wide range of sales and specials that will not only allow shoppers to enjoy the celebration but augment back to school ar- ticles missed in the end of August rush. The Village Merchants Association is hosting this ex- - travaganza as an ongoing process which culminated in the fresh, new outlook the Village has taken on, courtesy of the Downtown Revitalization Project under- taken by the provincial government. This project which follows the June Grand Opening attended by an estimated 5,000 people of all ages, is a continuation of a process to encourage residents to patronize a uni- que community-oriented shopping centre which offers a complete range of stores and services for all your shopping needs.
