NORTH VANCOUVER School District hopes that
cancelling three professional days will convince the
provincial government it should keep the estimated
$526,000 saved during the three day teachers strike.

District 44 approved that
scheme and sent the proposal
to the Minister of Education
Thursday, the deadline for
submitting proposals.

strikes.

Bill Friesen, president of
the North Vancouver
Teachers Association, said
his group is deeply concerned

about the loss of the profes-
sional days but that is sup-
ports the board action.

‘*The ability to protect
programs and services was
the first priority we had to
address,’’ Friesen said. ‘‘The
teachers association wants
the board to be able to pro-
tect those services.”’

Friesen said the profes-
sional days are a critical part
of the school year and that
the board’s decision, while
vital, is difficult to accept.

dent Rod Wickstrom, was
cancelled Nov. 19. A second,
scheduled for February, will
be cancelled across the
district and the date of the
third will vary from school to
school.
