Cable 10 wins award The 1982 recipient of the Canadian Cable Television Association's major programming award was honoured May 31, during the Association’s 25th Anniversary Convention. . Established in 1980 to recognize special achievement in this key area of the industry, the Omer Girard Award for In- novation in Programming is named in honour of this early cable television pioneer and _ founding member of CCTA. Girard, who is also a_ Vice- Chancellor of the Senate which governs. the Association’s Honours List, was on hand to present the award to this year’s winner, Wendell Ellis of Island Cablevision, Charlottetown, P.ELI. All disabled Prince Ed- ward Islanders were invited to attend a Wind-Up Rally for the International Year of Disabled Persons’ which Island Cablevision’s com- munity Channel organized on November 21, 1981. The Rally succeeded in bringing together the disabled and members of the community in general while promoting awareness of the community channel. Cable West TV Lid. of North Vancouver, British Columbia, placed second and received an honourable mention for their program “Disaster Alert”. The “Disaster Alert” test was conducted to determine the audibility effectiveness of the ‘sirens as a warning device,' and as a_ drill enabling citizens to learn how to react in the case of a genuine disaster.
