John Lewis, of Sacremento, was having trouble getting his 1972 Chevy Blazer started, the spokesman said, when he was assisted by Ray Lowen, aged 60, and Peter Laurent, of Vancouver. Lowen and Laurent succeeded in getting the car jump started, and the spokesman said the car ran for about 15 minutes, before Lowen asked Lewis to stop the motor so he could check the battery lines. The hood was up on the vehicle and Lowen = and Laurent were examining the battery, the spokesman said, when the battery blew up and covered the pair in battery acid, especially in the area of their eyes.
