Van streets ONE-HUNDRED welcoming banners were instalied: this week along part of Lonsdale Avenue and Marine Drive in North Vancouver. The project, which features the artwork of six local students, was initiated by the North Vancouver Community Arts Council and funded by 10 corporate sponsors. North Vancouver’s Expo ‘86 Committee is supporting the pro- ject. Jack McCormack, past-presi- dent of the Arts Council and a member of the local Expo ‘86° Committee, said the banner pro- ject’s theme is North Vancouver Gateway to Expo. EXPO DURATION “They'll be up during the dura- tion of Expo,’’ said McCormack. “We: were interested in doing something to welcome people from Expo over to our shores.’” He said the silkscreen banzers, seven feet by three feet, are hang- ing from lamp-posts on Lonsdale and are posted on Marine Drive from Capilano Road to MacKay Street. McCormack said the banners are spread out because fewer tha planned were made. He said initially 300 were to be made, but organizers were unable to attract enough sponsors. Each sponsor was required to contribute $3,000, which would pay the cost of 10 banners at $300 each. BANNERS SPONSORED Each banner carries the spon- sor’s name. The sponsors who did take part ‘in the project are Canadian’ Oc- cidental, Smithrite Disposal Limited, Canadian Tire, Shopper's Drug Mart, Vancouver City Sav- ings Credit Unit, North Shore Community Credit Union, the owner of Avalon and Lynnwood Hotels, Esso Petroleum, B.C.
