The schoo! would be run by a council comprised of parents -and teachers to deliver a “teacher-centred” program rather than a “learner-centred” prugram. Coincidentally, the concept of individual school councils is one being explored by District 44 trustees for all of North Vancouver’s elementary and secondary schools. The coun- cils could involve community, business or student repre- sentatives. Either council propose? would have to operate within Education Ministry guidelines, pciicies and legisla- tion for curriculum and employment and be responsible for overseeing allocated funds. The proposed councils are attempts by the education system to address accountabili- ty concerns. Should public schools be run by school councils?
