Family roots not important

Dear Editor:

1 owas incensed enough after
reading Barbara Cartile’s April 23
letter in the North Shore News
that f just had to reply.

She wrote about the problems
caused in Canada by recent: im-
migration.

! too am concerned about ‘‘un-
controlled’! immigration, but 1
take exception to a few points that
she made.

Her claims that Europeans are

Wooshe meant that European
culture is the basis of Canadian
culture, 1 cannot disagree, but
that is not what she said.

The government's method of
gun control is to disarm all law-
abiding citizens and punish gun-
toting criminals with sentences
equating (o a slap on the wrist. 1
have witnessed this dozens of
times,

People like Wendy Cukier of
the Coalition for Gun Control
practically beg to become victims
of violent crimes because they en-
dorse the above system,

She and her followers seem to
live in a fantasy world.

The bottom line: Given the cur-
tent criminal justice system, arm-
ed criminals will continue to prey
on society because there is no
deterrent. No deterrent from the
ever-lenient courts and no deter-
rent from your defenceless

I always. look forward to
reading Noel Wright’s Insight ar-
ticles and the way in which he ar-
ticulates and explains the subject
of the week oz month.

He covers avenues I've
overlooked or not thought about.

And I always turn to Doug Col-
lins who has the courage to pro-
pound views with which we
thoroughly agree and hesitate to
say SO.

I often disagree with the !an-
guage he uses and the way he says
it, but carry on, Collins!
