SMOLDERING smoking material
is suspected to have been the cause
of an Aug. il fire that was con-
tained within a waste basket at 508
East Second St. in North Van-
couver.

Approximately $2,500 damage
was caused to the hardwood floors
of the house, which was being
looked after by a 14-year-old while
her parents were away.

Cause of the fire is under in-
vestigation.

Youths rescued
from Lynn Creek

RESCUE CREWS were called to Lynn Canyon Park Monday to
evacuate two Burnaby youths who had been swept down the creck
while hiking in the area.

A North Vazcouver District Fire Department crew and a crew
from the North Vancouver unit of the B.C. Ambulance Service ar-
rived at the park at about 5:15 p.m. to find the two youths, a 14-
year-old male and a 14-year-old female, trapped on a sand bank on
the west side of the creek just below the suspension bridge.

The two had been walking along a bank when they slipped and
feil into the creek. Both suffered miid exposure. They were
evacuated by by rope by 7 p.m. and transferred to Lions Gate Hospi-
tal.

RCMP seek info on sex assault.

NORTH Vancouver RCMP are seeking information regarding a
sexual assault that occurred shortly after 9 p.m., Friday, Aug. 4, in
East Victoria Park (just East of Lonsdale at Keith Road.)

““We are seeking the assistance of anyone who may have been in
the area at the time and witnessed any suspicious persons or activi-
ties that could relate to this offence,”’ Const. Geoff Shaw said late
last week.

A RICHMOND man was sentenced Aug. 9 in West Vancouver
‘provincial court to two months in jail after he pleaded guilty to
theft. —.

Robert Frier was originally charged in connection with an Aug. 1
incident in which a vehicle was stolen from another male.

receive funding

TWO NORTH Vancouver specialty food producers have received
financial boosts from the federal and provincial governments.

Rene Rey Swiss Chocolates Ltd. and Sir Richard Seafoods Inc.
were each awarded $50,000 loans through the federal-previncial
Smail Business Incentives Subsidiary Agreement under the Eco-
nomic and Regional Development Agreement.

Rene Rey will invest its lvan in a $114,275 expansion cf its
chocolate production operation, while Sir Richard Seafoods will
use its loan to help with the opening of a $262,500 caviar manufac-
turing operation.

A total of nine full-time jobs and 10 part-time jobs will resuit
from the two expansions.
