Local residents win BCIT awards

TEN NORTH Shore residents were
among the award winners at the
British Columbia Institute of
Technology’s (BCIT) graduating
awards ceremonies held during
convocation week in June.

The nine winners from North
Vancouver are: Steven Bushell, the
Canadian Materials Handling and
Distribution Society Award in
Transportation and Distribution;
Birte Hunter, the Management
Systems Faculty Book Award;
Kristine Kunze, the Frosst Radio-
pharmaceuticals, Ralph Jamieson
Award and the Metro-McNair
Clinical Laboratories Award for
Clinical Excellence in Nuclear
Medicine; Kenneth Laidlaw, the
BCIT Alumni Award, School of
Engineering Technology; Deborah
R. Madryga, the Ryan Schlyecher
Memorial Award in Tourism;
Trevor McEachern, the
Mechanical Contractors Associa-
tion of B.C. Award in Mechanical
Systems; Christopher Tisdall, the
Canadian Life and Health In-
surance Award; Teddy K.H.
Wong, the Royal Bank Finance
Award and the Canadian Life and
Health Insurance Award; and
John H. Wu, the Computer
Systems Award in Engineering/
Communication Systems.

The winner from West Van-
couver is Jonathan Devooght, the
White Spot Limited Award in
Hospitality Administration.

One hundred and twenty-nine
North Shore residents received
their BCIT Diplomas of Techno-
logy at the convocation ceremonies
held on BCIT’s Burnaby campus
June 15 and 16.

“When I see the quality of
BCIT’s graduates, I am optimistic
about the future,” said BCIT’s
new president John A. Watson.
“‘We are going to be in good
hands. Our graduates have an ex-
cellent work ethic and great skills.
They become effective merubers of
an employer's team right from the
start.””
