THREE. OF the four teams representing the North
Shore Girls’ Soccer Club won their division titles at
the Safeway Coastal Premier Cup finals on the
weekend at Swangard Stadium.

North Shore Highlanders were dominant ina 1-0
win over Coquitlam United. Thunder in the under-18
division one final as striker Nicki Barber converted a
pass from Tori Cook carly in the stcond half for the
winning goal.

Cook, a central defender- midfielder, was named the
tournament's outstanding player and was presented
the Rose Bow] Trophy and red jacket by Safeway
public relations manager. Don Bell tof North  Van-

. couver during the parade of champions awards cere-
- monies.
Cook is the first North Shore player to be selected
- as the top player in the, cight- year history of the girls’
tournament. .

North Shore Metros. won the under-16 division two
championship 1-0 over, Kerrisdale Express when right
winger .. Julie Westerman blasted” home the only goal

off the goalkeeper’s desperation attempt Ie keep the
ball out after fumbling a shot on a free kick by left
winger Tiffany Chester in the carly minutes of the se-
cord half of overtime.

Central defender Sophie -Spithorghs was chosen -

player of the game for the Metros.

North Shore Amazons rang up a 3-1 victory over
Coquitlam United Marauders in the under-}} division
seven final.

Striker Jordi Brown with two goals and tight winger
Leanne Hancheroff with one were dangerous. all
game.

North Shore Stingers fell 2-1 to Cliff Avenue Unit-
ed in the under-13 division five title game. -

Lynn Westerman, Julic’s younger sister, scored late
in the opening half to tie the:score prior to the winn-
ing goal in the last half.
