IT IS hard to win a basketball game when three of
your top players are injured and cannot play.

Capilano College Blues men's coach Neil Chester
was reminded of that Feb. 19 when his team dropped
81-61 to Fraser Valley College in their home gym in
Clearbrook.

“We were short on scorers. Jason Brinham, our
best scorer, Al Sovernige and Si Huynh are all out,”
Chester said.

Cap was in the game in the first half, working the
ball around until the open shot was there.

Tony Nelson was the hot shooter, and Cap’s press
also got them some points in the latter part of the half
when Fraser Valley had some problems bringing the

The score at the end of the half was 40-35 for
Fraser Valley.

The second half was a different story. Fraser
Valley's defence turned on the power and shut down
the few shooters Cap had.

Fraser Valley dominated the half in the rebounding
department as well, depriving the Capilano squad of
the chance to get inside for second or third shots.

“We couldn't control the boards because of our
lack of size,'' Chester said.

Guards Nelson and Tim Mills led the Cap team in
scoring with 22 and 18 points, respectively.
