SHORE WOMEN’S CENTRE Workshops help local women to plan careers WOMEN WHO are wondering what to do when the youngest goes off to day care or kindergarten will have a new resource this summer. The North Shore Women’s Centre is offering three-day workshops on career plannning at the Delbrook Centre August Ti, 12, and 13. The workshops are being co-sponsored with the Women's Skill Development Society, which does research and education on women’s work. Donna Stewart, the facilitator, says the society decided to offer the workshops because of the demand last summer. ‘‘We were inundated with phone calls from women desperate for career guidance. Agencies which offer counselling have long waiting Jists, and the Women’s Resource Centre phone was always busy. “So we planned three-day workshops. The first day will be self-assessment. The second day we’ll start job search techniques, including resumes and interviews. On the third day we'll tackle job market information and training resources. “We have done extensive work with re-entry women; 0 we have the experience to work effectively with them. We'll be doing two series in Burnaby and another in) Port Coquitlam in September. The workshops are modestly priced, with special rates for women on income assistance, but groups are limited to 15."
