These days, on Canadian juve- nile shelves in bookstore, and libraries, the traditional ,Indian legends, animal stories and Anne of Green Gables titles have been joined by a fine selection of con- temporary novels for young readers, Among the most promising of these new authors is Sarah Ellis, a Vancouver resident whose juvenile novel The Baby Project was published by Groundwood Press in Gctober. The book, which has earned ex- girl whose life is changed by the birth, and then the unexpected loss, of a baby sister. Though the story is tinged with tragedy, this is not a sad book: the scenes of family life are full of humor and hope. Sarah Ellis was formerly coor- dinator of Children’s Services at North Vancouver District Library, and brings a wealth of experience as a librarian, storyteller and critic to her new career. Currently a part-time librarian at the Capilano Branch, she will return to the main Lynn Valley Library on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. to meet with fans both young and old, to read from her book and to sign autographs.
