The six-month course at the West Vancouver Finishing School will offer classes in table manners, the use of the voice, skin care, fashion and business etiquette. Instructor Maj Mackenzie said the course, which begins September and costs $3,500, will benefit young people who want to present a professional image in public. “We want to get across how important it is to conduct yourself in society,’’ said Mackenzie. “The ones that have the extra skills are the ones that get the jobs.”” “oes NEWS photo Tom Burley MacKenzie says that in the com- CAREER EMPHASIS oan Pema oe - MAI MACKENZIE of the West Vancouver Finishing School stands in front of a sign of her school’s name, Mackenzie said all of the topics to be discussed relate to today’s work world, and throughout the course emphasis will be placed on career choices. “in the past a lot of students used to go off to Europe after school ended, but in these troubled times many stay home,"’ she said. “‘What we're trying to do is have a day school here for them — there’s a wealth of talent on the North Shore just waiting to be us- ed, but we will be getting qualified instructors for each course.’’ A maximum of 40 students, be- tween the ages of 16 and 18, will be accepted for the course, with most classes averaging 10 students, said Mackenzie. ‘The whole idea is to give as much individual attention to each person,”’ she said. These classes will cover eti- quette, skin care, public speaking, fashion, diet, nutrition and some crafts. BUSINESS ETIQUETTE Also, an evening course on business etiquette for the profes- sional will be available starting in September. Mackenzie said the course, geared for the working public, will be available to both sexes and will provide instruction on the Pacific Asian culture. Mackenzie, a former airline at- iendant and manager, lived in Asia for 12 years helping her husband edit books and volunteering with the Red Cross. She returned to West Vancouver in 1983.
