Eintertainment Concerts cater to kids Cauver’s best NORTH Varicouver’s Centennial Theatre will be presenting a unique series of Sunday after- noon children’s con- certs in October and November. Called the Children’s Super Series, the concerts will consist of live perfor- mances by three of Canada’s top performers in children’s entertainment. The series kicks off Oc- tober 13 with acclaimed children’s musician Eric Nagler, followed by the music and magic of Paul Hann (Star of CTV's Paul Hann and Friends) on November 3 and ending with Lois Walker’s award-winn- ing Puppcorn Puppets show on November 17. “The Children’s Super Series is a unique event for North Vancouver families,” says Herb Walker, theatre co-ordinator. ‘‘It’s a chance for parents to share with their children the fun and excitement of live stage entertainment. For the children it’s a rare opportu- nity to see some of their favorite television and re- cord personalities live on stage.”’ The series is also an ex- periment for the Centennial Theatre, with its degree of success determining whether similar events can be staged on a regular basis. “We've never staged a children’s entertainment series of this magnitude be- fore,’’ said Walker. ‘‘We're trying io introduce the idea that good, solid entertain- ment really can be a family event. Nagler, with his mastery of a wide array of both con- ventional (banjo, fiddle, flute) and unconventional (would you believe bleach bottles, drainpipes, washtubs and wax paper?) musicai in- struments, has been well- received by the entertain- ment press. Hann, whose mixture of music, magic and humor has made his style of children’s entertainment one of the most popular in Canada has released seven albums and eight singles. Lois Walker, whose Pup- peorn Puppets stage show, television series, books and records have gained wide appeal in both Canada and the United States, is also at the pinnacle of children’s entertainment. Her 1980 television special, “Invite a Puppcorn to Christmas Dinner,’’? won a national television award as Canada’s Outstanding Special for Children. In 1984, she won a CANPRO Award for outstanding children's television. Now a North Vancouver resident, her recent West Coast appearances at the James Cowan Theatre and the Surrey Arts Centre were sellouts. Show times for each date are | and 3 p.m. Tickets for the series are available at all Vancouver Ticket Centre outlets (280- 4444) and North Vancouver Recreation Commission Centres (988-6166). B.C.
