The raw silk, silk-linen and wool-silk suits ‘and: jackets showed off a_ lightweight dress look that can be worn to the office and easily doubl- ed as a dashing evening outfit. Lots of cotton pants, jeans, shorts and net shirts reminded the audience that spring is just around the cor- ner, not to mention summer. Owners Anderson and Terry Kaiser, both from North Vancouver, started Se- cond Suit, a consignment store which now includes samples and retail, back in °79. Then, they were a con- signment store for men only. When the two opened their doors, their entire stock in- cluded the clothing from seven friends. Anderson laughs when she looks back, saying the store was pretty bare, but by word of mouth and a sign in the window, consignment for men caught on. ‘“‘With men, consignment was a real education,’’ Anderson says. ‘‘When the store expanded next door to women’s consignment, it caught on immediately, but women already knew about consignment. Vancouver had consignment stores for women for 20 years.”’ Anderson says that men’s consignment doesn’t always take care of itself, so after they got to know their clien- up to tele, they included samples and retail. ‘‘lt was a natural _ NEWS photo lan Smith =o evolution.’’ But Anderson | JAMES MODELS a Wille Wear cotton jumpsuit in tan.
