By PENNY McDONALD WHEN 13 year old Barry Botterill and his grandfather, Stan McLennan heard a kitten’s mournful cries coming from a tree top. recently, they investigated. Rocky, a four-month-old long haired tabby, had once again scampered to the top of a lofty evergreen and was too afraid to venture back to safety. Just two weeks earlier, the curious kitten had been stranded in an 80-foot tree where it spent two days and a —meowing - while hanging from flimsy branches and being harassed by crows. When no amount of coaxing or food could entice the cat down, he was eventually rescued by a firefighter who put the animal safely in a pillowcase and returned it to the anxious young owners, Ryan, Amy and_ Julie Baldwin. No one thought the kitten would attempt another daring escapade, but Rocky had other ideas. After climbing into a tree house and continuing up the tree, Rocky became precariously perched once more, - The kitten spent another lonely day and night up the tree before being “réscued. again, this, time’ by: ‘Barty. known as BY.- who took pity . on the..cat after hearing. its’ cries of distress: Unfortunately the kitten had chosen to climb a tree far too spindly for a human to scale., But B.J. was un- daunted. He climbed an adjacent. tree until he was level with the.cat then called to it. The kitten climbed onto the longest branch and was about to fall when B.J. grabbed Rocky and put him safely into another pillowcase. Rescuing animals is nothing new for B.J. whose older brother and a friend have also rescued cats from trees. B.J. also successfully plucked two other cats from the middle of Lynn Creck. when they were stranded. THANK-YOU cake.was baked by the Reldwin family for B.J.
