Junior track team A FIRST in the 400 Metres at a recent meet was the clincher for naming Andrew Dawson to the B.C. Junior track and field team. Dawson has had several recent successes locally in both high school and club track meets. A member of the Nor'west Track and Field Club, the junior boy finished the 400m in 49.1 seconds, tieing his juvenile record- setting time. Several other Nor'westers joined Dawson at the Y Times-Colonist meet June 19 and 20 in Victoria. The event attracted athletes aged 9 to Masters’ from Washington state and B.C. Now that he is on the provincial junior team, Dawson will be travelling to Winnipeg this weekend to run in the Canadian Track and Field Association Junior Outdoor meet and hopes to improve his time in the 400 m. Other junior level Nor'westers who performed well at the Victoria meet were Louise Pennington (two firsts and two seconds) and Maria Mulder. Placing in the top six m their events were Sigrid Otto, Caroline Bodwell, Nancy Coulter, Kendra Thitchener, Sarah But- terworth, Diane Osborne, Richard Pennington, Steven Dong, Graham Morfitt, Graeme Bowbrick, Trevor Craven, Dylan Griffith, Scott Thitchener, Sean Millington, Ingrid Otto and Wendy Montgomery. Upper Lynn finishes track season with wins UPPER LYNN finished the elementary school track and field season on a winning Note, with one team cap- turing the blue mbbon in three events. The grade seven girls team finished first in the mediey, 4x100 and 4x200 relays at the North Shore meet June ! at Swangard Stadium. The smoothly run meet had more than 111 events with 8 to 16 entries per race. Emphasis was placed on maximum participation and enjoyment rather than competition. According to meet organizers, more than 1,000 youngsters participated dunng the day-long event.
