Winners and losers It was a good weekend for the men, but a bad one for the women in Capilano College soccer action. ' The womens’ team, which only ‘began playing this year, lost its first (wo games of the season to Nanaimo’s Malanspina College by scores of 12-3 and 14-1. However the men defeated Malanspina in both their games, winning the first by a 4-1 margin and the second by 7-1. In womens’ action, Shelley Gouchee, Carmel Ward and Mary-Ann Yzerman scored for Cap College in the 12-3 loss at home on Saturday. Yzerman was the sole Capilano scorer Sunday in the 14-1 loss in Nanaimo. Mike Findlay scored two goals for the men in their 4-1 victory at Capilano Satur- day. Brent Murdock and Martin Foran also scored. Foran tallied four goals Sunday in Nanaimo, leading Cap College to a 7-1 victory. Findlay, Craig Binian and Hanif Vellani accounted for the other goals. Bluejays soar in field hockey West Vancouver Bluejays defeated the North Van- couver Sharks 3-0 in women’s field hockey on the weekend. Kate Connaghan scored two goals for West Van- couver, with Shilagh Fraser getting the other. Lisa -Flemming was outstanding on defense. In other action, the West Vancouver Finches lost 3-0 to Delta, despite exceptional effort from Barb Harvey, Margot Dean and Gillian Wren. Youth bowls 299 An 18-year-old youth bowled a Canadian game first of 299 last Saturday in league play at Thunderbird Lanes in North Vancouver. The junior program director said Colin Shott, who was bowling in the Saturday morning junior program, shot 11 strikes ina row and then left a six pin standing on the last ball of the last frame. The outstanding per- formance was 100 pins over average for Shott.
