She will be talking about that spill and: — Silvaine © showing a film on the ocean life around the Queen Charlotte Islands, called ‘“Gwaii Haanas.”’ Moa., Marci 27 — Birds and Bones — 2 p.m. — Dr. Val Schaefer from Douglas College will lead a Show & Tell with his collection of bones and stuffed birds.. He will show how each animal. is adapted depending on what it eats. Tues., March 28 — How Smart are . Hummingbdirds? — 2 p.m. — Dr.: Lee Gass from the UBC Zoology Dept. wiil give a slide-show about the ochavior and intelligence of hummingbirds. Find out how to attract them to your garden. Wed., March 29 — Marsh, Swamp and Mud — 2 p.m. — A member of the Vancouver Natural History Society will give a slide-show about the many types of wildlife to be found in Maplewood Mudflats, a North Vancouver marsh. Pointers will also be given on how to spot birds when out for a walk, and tricks for distinguishing different species of birds. : Thors., March 30 — Lynn Creek Walk — All-day hike with Ecology Centre Naturalist Kevin Bell. Many interesting items up for grabs at Upper Lynn auction ARTWORKS DONATED by Jack Shadbolt, Bill Reid and Gordon Smith are just some of the treasures being put up for bids at the Upper Lynn Elementary’s ‘‘Beary’’ (the bear is the school’s mascot) Special Auction, planned for Wednesday, March 22 at 7:30 p.m. The auction is being put on by the school’s parents’ group, which raises funds in support of curricular programs. In ;the past, the group: has donated money to the computer lab, stage performance lights, video materials, artistic programs and performances. The items donated for the auc- tion are many and varied, including headphones, a family portrait, swimming lessons, a date te ride- along on patrol with a local RCMP officer, a golf game for two at Seymour Golf and Country Club, one month's VIP membership at Gold’s Gym and 100" ice cream cones. | One of the most interesting items donated is a one bedroom condo in a five star hotel for two weeks in Puerto Vallarta. |; Tickets to the auction are $10, and include a chance at a door prize featuring two nights at the Bayside Inn on Vancouver Island. The parents’ group is preparing a booklet listing the auction items. There will also be an opportunity to preview.
