Minibus service supported Dear Editor: T would dike to express ny gratitude tor the new minibus service being offered on the North Shere, and my great dis- appointment thar there would be any kind of opposition to a program like this. T have had several letters to the editor published regarding my frustration with the services offered by BC Transit, and the lack of common sense safety at Phibbs Exchange (bad light- ing, isolation, and lack of secu- rity at night). Of course, because most politicians, mem- bers of transportation boards and those in charge of BC Transit rarely take a bus. [ guess I should not be surprised that things never change in favour of the riders. The minibus gives me attordable treedom to do such things as work six days a week. T can leave my job in Burnaby on Saturday, head toa grocery store on the North Shore, get myselfand groceries home for $3.50 (the same price Safeway charges for home delivery). The Problem with Sateway is that it only takes deliveries up until 4 p.m. on Saturday and nor at all on Sundays. The minibus will pick me up as hate at 8 p.m. This service also allows me to get around at night sately, and within my budget. Like many B.C. residents, I work hard te survive, and somewhere along the line 1 would love a few small breaks. The minibus service is one of them. Please leave it alone. Sue Cook North Yancouver Dear Editor: Our new minibus service (Local Minibus Ltd.) is the answer to the hopes of many North Shore residents, in par- ticular seniors, thar a service like this would be encouraged and promoted by our clected officials, i.c. transportation that is affordable, efficient, in clean new vehicles with courteous drivers. Ong can only hope chat city officials do everything possible to encourage this operation and discourage lobbying by other interest: groups against the minibus multiple fare ser- vice, not only in the interest of free enterprise but also in the interest of a few thousand vot- ers who tend to have a long memory.
