Just one week ago, Derik was back in Toronto at the Oatario Science Centre for a celebratory and festive evening at Canada’s most prestigious photography and illustration show and competition, the CAPIC National Show. A panel of international judges selected the nation’s finest im- agery by awarding one gold, one silver and three bronzes in six categories. The good news is that Derik was presented with the gold medal for his black-and-white shot produced by B.C.’s Workers’ Compensation Board. Not only did he win the top award, he also won two of the three bronze awards. Derik and his wife, Marthe Love, are famous for their food photography. There will be dining, dancing, entertainment, a benefit casino and fabulous door prizes. It was way back in 1886 that the First Firemen’s Bail was held in Gold’s Hall on Cordova and even then it was a fundraiser. The money went to buy uniforms and badges. Next Saturday, May 2, at the Hotel Vancouver, guests will be entertained by North Van’s masterful Rick Honey, who will act as emcee for the gala affair.
