celebrate week

GUIDES AND Scouts across the
North Shore are preparing for
celebrations to mark next week’s
Boy Scout and Girl Guide Week.

The annual event will be ushered
in in style by the Grouse division at
a flag-raising ceremony on Satur-
dav, Feb. 18 at 8 a.m. at North
Vancouver District Hall. The
Grouse division includes the area
bounded by the Capilano River
and Lonsdale Avenue.

Following the flag-raising, two
RCMP officers in dress uniform
and two squad cars will escort the
Guides and Scouts in a parade
down Queens to recCentre
Delbrook where a pancake
breakfast will be enjoyed by the

participants.

Members of the Boy Scouts and
Gir! Guides who live east of the
Seymour River will hold a church
parade on Sunday, Feb. 19. They
will gather at St. Simon’s Anglican
Church, 1384 Deep Cove Rd., at 1
p.m. aad march to Seycove Com-
munity School, 1204 Caledonia
Ave., for a service at 1:30 p.m.

February 22, called Thinking
Day, is the joint birthday of Lord
and Lady Baden-Powell, the
founders of Girl Guides and Boy
Scouts. The day is observed
worldwide with events to promote
international friendship and un-
derstanding.

In West Vancouver, Scouts and
Guides wiil come together for a
special Thinking Day service at
West Vancouver Secondary school
auditorium, 1750 Mathers Ave.,
from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m..on Wednes-
day, Feb. 22. Members of the
community who have. been involv-
ed with Guiding and Scouting over
the years are welcome to attend.

To mark Thinking Day in the
Crown division (area bounded by
Lonsdale Avenue and the our
River), approximately 300
Brownies, Guides and Pathfinders
will attend a church parade at
Lynn Valley United Church, 320!
Mountian Hwy., on Sunday, Feb.
26 at 2 p.m. Following the service
the girls wiil gather in the church
hall for refreshments and a camp-
