' causes concerns ; in W. Van OPEN LETTER TO WEST VANCOUVER COUNCIL fe As you are no doubt aware, the a residents on Tyrol and Camelot . Roads are not too pleased with the | planned development at the west a: end of Tyrol. a One of our main concerns is the he increase in traffic which will result - from the additional proposed housing. Our streets over the years have experienced great changes and ever-increasing traffic flow from the relatively new Chartwell area above. Some nine or 10 years ago, our streng protest from the Tyrol/ Camelot residents was successful in curtailing a British Properties cluster housing development on the site in question. Again, the traffic problem at that time was one of the major concerns. The local res- idents were left with the impression that our very busy, poor layout of street patterns (then called tem- porary), would be corrected by a bridge crossing over McKay Creek leading the above traffic westward to the Westhill and 21st Street in- terchange. With the planned BPP development being denied by council, we on Tyrol and Camelot were pleased and basically forgot about the entire matter. Only since the present planned development has come to light have a few of us remembered our promise from council and the planning depart- ment of the proposed bridge over McKay Creek. As the bridge question was brought up at the council hearing May 16, it was explained our promised bridge was never built over the creek because of objec- tions from the new residents in the Westhill area, Apparently from the objections, the planning depart- ment saw fit to cancel the bridge leaving our streets of Tyrol and Camelot, and a quarter block of 15th Street with the deluge of traf- fic as the Chartwell area developed. We ask the council, is this fair treatment to the residents in the Tyrol/Camelot area? All we expect is the planning department’s originally designed road pattern layout allowing for a smooth flow of traffic shared equally within the community. We have several suggestions to put forth for council’s perusal that would allow some form of equality within the neigisborhood, ¢ Continue Camwell Drive through to Westhill by way of the original planned bridge. ¢ Close off Camwell Drive with a cul-de-sac turn around at the southern-most end at Woodward Park. © Close off Camelot at the west end with a cul-de-sac turn around again at Woodward Park. All suggestions would alleviate the downward flow of traffic from the lower Chartwell area compen- sating our area for the increased traffic we will be subject to with the completion of the British Pro- perties development. Various types of road barriers have worked exceptionally well in Kerrisdale, the West End, Commercial Drive and other areas of Vancouver. We are most trusting the council will see fit to correct a very poor present situation. We urge you to give this matter your immediate at- tention. Erwen Smith Keith Hall West Vancouver TH BC.
