Man charged with assault A 28-YEAR-OLD North Van- couver man appeared Thursday in North Vancouver provincial court to face charges of assault, uttering a threat to injure and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public. Ian - Frederick Heathcote was originally charged in connection with an April 15 incident in which he is alleged to have assaulted one person and told another he was “going to cut your throat. I’m go- ing to rob yon. I’m going to come back and rob you.” He was also charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to the public after the police seized a knife. Appearing before Judge J.B. A former professional baseball player with the old Vancouver Athletic Club, Mr. Stong, along with his father Carson Ross Stong, founded the retail food market chain that bears the family name in 1931. He took over management of Stong’s in the early 1940s after his father died. Mr. Stong was a major figure in Lower Mainland baseball and was instrumental in founding the Little Mountain Little League in 1952. The league was the first in the Lower Mainland area. RALPH STONG In recognition of his contribu- tion to baseball as a player, a builder and sponsor of the sport, he was inducted into the Sports B.C. Hall of Fame in 1985. Mr. Stong’s entrepreneurial skills and his dedication to the community and the community spirit of his business have established Stong’s as a major retail fixture on the North Shore and in the Lower Mainland. Son-in-law Bill Rossum, the cur- rent general manager of Stong’s, said Mr. Stong will be sadly missed by his family and the community.
