On Saturday, Jan. 31 organizers are hoping hundreds of North Shore children and their pets will walk a circuit around Mahon Park to raise money for the Variety Club ‘Telethon. The event is the brainchild of long-time North Vancouver teach- er Juanita Valentine. She had wanted to develop an event that would involve children in raising funds for the disabled and disad- vantaged younyalcrs. Last year she came up wih the idea of a Dog-A-Thon, and more than 100 children and their pets participated, At that time many local businesses gave their support to this family event, donating everything fron refreshments for the children to prizes for the animals. Fach dog went home with a can of dog food. “The children loved it,’’ said Valentine. ‘‘When the event was over many of the children asked me when the next one was.’’ The Dog-A-Thon takes place from noon to 3 p.m. at North Vancouver’s Mahon Park. There will be prizes, including awards for the dog who does the most laps, the dog who raises the most money, the biggest dog, the smallest dog,. the fluffiest dog and the best dressed dog. All North Vancouver school children are invited to take part. Pledge forms are available at all local elementary schools. For more information contact the Variety Club at 669-7770.
