DOMOMITE LIME — the next 4 to 6 weeks will be optimum time for application of lime,
especially if you have been experiencing fungus or moss problems. Choosing the right
lime is important in order to achieve best results, and we recommend “Dolomite” lime
for most applications. It is more expensive than ground limestone, but the latter is slow
to dissolve and therefore of limited value. Apply 4 to 6 Ibs. per 100 sq.ft. on lawns or
gardens. Avoid planting areas containing rhododendrous, azaleas, or other broad-

leaved shrubs.

STARTING SEEDS & BULBS — for those who like to start their own plants, you should
bethinking about setting up your mini nurseries in the house. Use sterilized soil to avoid
fungus damp-off, together with a fungicide powder suitable for indoors. Instructions for
depth of soil over the seeds or bulbs should be strictly observed. You can leave the
planted flats in a relatively dark area until germination begins, but they should then be
moved to a bright window (southside) or under gro-lights. Turn the flats regularly to
avoid one-sided or crooked growth. Water sparingly but do not allow to dry out.
Generally speaking, no fertilizers should be applied until after the second set of leaves
are out. :
