4 - Friday, March 14, 1986 - North Shores News Church development clears the first hurdle NORTH SHORE Alliance Church has asked North Van- couver City to amend its Official Community Plan to allow the building of a church on the southeast corner of 23rd Street and St. George’s Avenue. And despite a planner’s recom- mendation urging rejection of the Proposal, city council voted Mon- day to send the request to the Ad- visory Planning Commission for a report. Pastor Arnie Toews told council he had spoken to area residents about the new development and had found the response to be fa- vorable. **We are very convinced that the neighbors are in support of this land use,’’ Toews said. By STEPHEN BARRINGTON Contributing Writer In his report, city planner Richard White reminded council that when the official community plan was adopted in 1980, the property was designated as a single-family zone in light of the city’s commitment not to support institutional development on the site, he said.
