B4 - Sunday, March 11, 1984 - GEARING UP FOR PLAYOFFS North Shore News Gold for Yics at Games THE NORTH Vancouver Minor Hockey Associa- tion’s Juvenile ‘‘A’’ team, sponsored by Yic’s Din- ing Lounge captured the gold medal at the B.C. Winter Games, held at Fort St. John. The local boys first came up against Penticton, who were Only able to ice twelve players due to illness on the team. Their lack of bench strength showed early in the game as North Vancouver dominated by skating hard and wearing the opposition down with body checking. The final score of this game was 10-1 with only three minor penalties assessed to them. First FAST EDDIE’S captured the Seymour Division title of the North Shore Soccer Associa- tion by defeating Scandicraft 3-1 last week. Fast Eddies were lead by Robert Andrews with a pair of goals while Larry Kerr ad- ded a single marker. John Leevers scored the lone Scan- dicraft goal. In other Seymour Division action Rive’ Bros. bested Coach House 4-1 while At- The game against Castlegar was played at 7:00 a.m. the next morning with North Vancouver advancing to the gold medal round by virtue of their 13-1! win. This game was also reasonably penalty free with only four penalties against the “Blues.”’ Comox Chiefs were match- ed against North Vancouver in the final game. This will be the same team that will open the British Columbia Amateur Hockey Association play-downs against the ‘*Blues’’ commencing Friday 8:00 p.m. March 16, at the North Vancouver Recreation Centre. The first period end- ed 2-2. The second period started the same as if the two teams had never left the ice. With Comox starting to press, an unfortunate penalty shot was awarded against North Van- couver, but the fine save from goaltender Peter Milkovich seemed to wake up the team and North Van- couver poured four quick un- answered goals into the Com- ox net. , The final period was all North Vancouver as Comox seemed to be unable to penetrate .the defensive wall that the North Vancouver team usually sets up in these situations. The final score of 8-3 gave North Vancouver Minor Hockey their first ever medal or Fast Eddies talos lead by Tom Sperandeo’s goal defeated Trev Jones Excavating 1!-0. The Capilano Division winners North Shore Bar- barians defeated Pegasus Old Boys 1-0 on a goal by Steve Jansen. In other Capilano Division games North Shore Chiefs defeated Pioneer Grain Dust 4-2 and Goofy’s and Lynn- wood played to a scoreless draw.
