Urged on by Aldermen Ralph Hall, who bashed bureaucratic axing of ap- plications for neighborhood pubs, council voted Monday to review City policy towards them. An application for a neighborhood pub at 175 Rast Ist Street is before council, but staff has recommended its rejection. “We've got to decide if we're truly interested in neighborhood pubs,” Hall said. “Applications that come in get shot down for bureaucratic reasons--they have to have ali sorts of parking, they have to be within a mile of licenced premises. “Lf we want them, we have to get realistic about parking regulations.” Fifteen parking places are required for pubs of the size proposed in the application, under a present City bylaw. The applicants for the pub said they could provide 10 spaces. Another bylaw insists a new pub or licenced hotel must be located a mile away from any other—except if the manager of the existing pub approves a closer location. Alderman Gary Payne chimed in with his support of neighborhood pubs. But Alderman Stella Jo Dean said the new neigh- borhood pub would be “too close to trouble spots.” “It’s a block away from the Olympic Hotel.” she told council. A policy should be established, agreed Alderman Elko Kroon. Everyone except Dean voted for the move. The early bird catches the bus MISSING the bus can ruin anyone's day. And when R.F.
