B3-Wednesday, October 22, 1980 - North Shore News sport. Royals take aim at provincial football crown The undefeated. Hands- worth. Royals continued to dominate the North Shore Senior Boys Football League with a 14-0 win over Sentinel Spartans last week — but the big question now is, will they be able to defend their B.C. title? Royals coach, Dave Pearce would not be tied down on the subject, despite his undefeated record on the North Shore. “I don’t know he laughed nervously, but we will give it our best shot.” Pearce is worried about how his young team will perform when they come up against he traditional powerhouse teams like Notre Dame and Steveston. “I don’t think they will let me down ... hopefully we will peak at the right time, the kids have a lot of con- fidence,” Pearce said. “The kids” did not let him down in the Thursday game against the Spartans as quarterback Bruce Barnett scored an eight yard touchdown in the first quarter. Dave Duffis added one more the third quarter on a 12 yard run. _ “It was the hardest hitting game so far this year,” said Pearce. Defensive standouts in the game for the winning side were Rich Weishaupt and Mike Densky, both _in- strumental in the shutout victory. Handsworth was able to hold the Spartans on their own four yard line in the fourth quarter. “It was a good game, Sentinel played well, they are a very tough team,” Pearce added. Handsworth finishes off the regular season this week when they play the Windsor Dukes on Thursday at Empire Stadium starting at 7:00 p.m. Nationals romp to easy win = WV Egrets draw, If Nationals are not ‘good enough’ for second division soccer in the Vancouver Metropolitan league, then it is also becoming evident the 3b North Shore side are perhaps too good for third division.
