BOHEMIAN rhapsody
is the underlying theme
of spring accessories.

Eastern and Indian intlu-
ences inspire jewelry, belts
and bags. Multizoloured
strands of tiny beads, layered
bangles and bracelets, fringed
shawls and bags richiy
embroidered and embellished
with tiny reflecting mirrors
are among the decorative
details you can expect to see
on store shelves come spring.

Colour is also making 2
comeback.

According to a_ trend
report ia this month’s issue of
Style, Canada’s fashion news
source, “the message is an
exotic desert caravan of earth-
bound neutrals with accents

of exotic brights tke fiery
fuchsia, orange, red, citrus
and purple. The body is a can-
vas tor dreamers who gather
their inspiration from the four
corners of the globe and
accessories are the pain with
which to create an individual
and eclectic look.”

At the spring 2000 collee-
tions in New York, Milan and
Paris, designers piled on the
accessories. Even minimalist
Giorgio Armani got in the
mood, launching a new line of
bags, belts, shoes and slouchy
suede boots that will debut in
stores for spring. One of the
most copied accessories will
be the Prada bowling bag,
predicted Torante Sun fashion
editor Sylvi Capelact in her
dispatch from the spring
shows. Margareta on Bellevue
has ordered a Kenneth Cole
copy of the bag (in red or
black) and will be bringing it

owner Lin Rockwell picked
up on the trend on a recent
buying tip to L.A. and
expects the first shipment of
spring accessories to arrive in
her Park Royal store at the
end of this month.

Headgear makes a return,
from cotton bandanas to cow-

boy hats in straw or pony,
with leathered or feathered
bands.

Focus shifts from the hair
to the wrist this coming
spring. Last season's hot sell-
er, the karma bracelet (also
called prayer or power beads),
a bracelet of semi-precious
stones strung on elastic string,
has been replaced by wrisc
